Welcome to the C47 Cafe.
We came to Ste. Mere Eglise in 2005 and having brought the home, we realised the potential of the old empty stable block that came with the house, facing the famous church. Not withstanding the complete lack of catering experience, it was to become a cafe!
Arriving in April, meant we had barely 2 months in which to convert an empty shell into a fully functioning establishment, that was to provide fast healthy food, the complete range of specialist coffees and wine and beer.
We gained all the necessary French permissions (we could write a book about this!) and the interior was completed and equipped for our grand opening on the 4th June.
The cafe was named the "C47 Cafe", and the interior was themed with C47 pieces, many prints and a US paratrooper hanging from the ceiling.
Pride of place goes to an original C47 rudder, which over the years has been signed by more than 70 WW2 veterans of all nationalities and many people now come to our cafe just to look at this unique memorial.
We are getting ready to open again for Easter, in preparation for the 65th anniversary of D-Day where we will be hosting more than 100 veterans over the 6th June period.
If you are passing through Ste. Mere Eglise we look forward to seeing you - and serving the best coffee in Normandy.
